I have the 73g in a driver, thats an X Flex, and it's a weee bit much for me, but a really nice flight. I dropped spin and brought my launch down a little with the heavier shaft for some reason, and thats why I got the 73 Stiff in my Super Tri. Let me know how you like it!!

That's just the weight I've generally played(or close to it) in driver shafts. Go with what ya know I guess. Sooooo... got out to the range a little this afternoon. I bought this driver to be more of a high hitter for days with no wind, 10.5* loft. I like my FT9, and it's great for windy days, but I've never really got the carry I like out of it, fairly low ball flight overall. This SuperTri delivers all that I hoped for! Wow what a driver! Tinkering around with the weights and FCT I found that R(1* open) and draw biased weighting suited me the best. This thing is just a beast! My launch angle has come up a lot more and I'm definately getting a lot more carry out of it. Can't say much for the roll out because it's wet as hell right now. But I was stripping big high draws that gave me a woody! I was leaning towards keeping my FT9 for windy days... we'll see how this bad boy plays in the wind, might have an FT9 up for sale soon lol!
F*TC1TY said: Mmm... Can't wait for mines to show up. ;) I went with the hieavier shaft to keep the flight down, since I like a mid flight, like my HD6, but I feel the Fubuki is way smoother, and I don't have to pounce on it to catch it perfect. Got mine in 9.5* because everyone said it launched higher and with more spin. I'm with you.. my FT-9 works great. I have a Fubuki 63g in it now, and I get get it to hit high, but it takes a bit of work for me too. More mid launch, and I get a decent amount of roll out. Our fairways are soggy as hell now, and I get nothing from it. My R9 was a real low ball flight, especially with a X flex Fubuki even, or the HD6. My 460 R9 is a monster though. I have it ripped wide open 2.5* degrees with a NU underline tour tip, and I can slam that bad boy so hard.. I used to hit those power fades if I got lazy, but now I'm fighting a hella bad pull hook when I try and nut one. I think I'm gonna set mine up like yours though.. I liked the R9 in the TP setting, with the 16 in the heel, and 1 and a 1 on the toe and in the back... Lucky for me, my club just got an entirely new fleet of Nike range balls today.... I can hit some clean ones with it when it shows up!

LBl*ck14 said: No offense, but I have a hard time believing anybody would pay that for a club when it will be 1/2 that inside of 6 months. Nice looking driver, but not much different from what they already have out except the black face.
N.V.M. said: so the "tri" means 3 weight ports? is that the difference between this and a regular R9 460?
F*TC1TY said: It's a slightly different shape than the previous 2 R9's. More rounded, instead of triangular. It's 460CC, with a deeper face than the R9460. Touted to have a higher launch, and slightly higher spin than the 460. If any of that is true, I have no idea. Seems specific to shaft and players swing, but who knows. All black of course.. I think it's a hot looking driver. I think TM has slowed down in the releases.. 2 a year per line. Burner and R9 line. It'll be cheaper in a few months, but probably after the golf season is well on it's way to being over. They are releasing a Super Deep TP driver. TP online, RIP shaft, 420/430 CC head, massively deep face, smaller rounded head, aimed at low lauch and spin for those who swing hard with high SS. With the expected price of that driver- I doubt it'll be a big ol' seller, and more people will opt for the Super Tri, hence why I think it'll stay with a decent price/value for now.

You just saw two people do it... seems like it'd be pretty easy to beleive to me....

N.V.M. said: hey slick, despite the unavoidable jokes, TM makes damn good hitting machines. give us some feedback as soon as you can.
F*TC1TY said: Like I said... They have dropped the Super Tri, and then they will have the Super Deep TP. It will ONLY be a TP release, and not just a regular crap shaft tossed in it. Aldila RIP will be in it.. The price will be gaudy.. I expect it to be close to $600, with it being found for slightly less at some stores. 2 models aint' bad for the R9 line up. 1 model for the Burner line up, with perhaps a TP version coming, as you could expect. What about Callaway? FT Tour, FT 9, FTIZ, Diablo, Diablo Edge, and what else? Adams has a friggin' STABLE of releases just brewing right now. I'll be sure to get a review of the SuperTri TP with Slick.. I've got maybe 5 different shafts to try it in.. If it sucks.. then I was an early buyer, and I can sell it and not lose too much on it.. :)
F*TC1TY said: Okay, so after around 4 rounds with my SuperTri.... I've got the HD-6 and the 73gram Fubuki shafts for this driver. I've got a Whiteboard as well, but I haven't tried it in there yet. The SuperTri, for me, isn't as high launching as the R9 460. With even the Fubuki, I'm getting a medium/high ball flight, like I have with most drivers. TM and the specs, say the ST is higher launching, AND higher spin. Everything against what the trend for alot of people is these days. Everyone wants the low spin, high launching combos. This could launch high for some, but I haven't seen it in my own useage. I have the entire R9 line up, from the R9 TP 420cc head, the 460cc TP, and the Super Tri TP. I love the way the R9 sets up, smaller, compact, but the driver is not that forgiving, and HATES to be mis-hit low on the face, which is where I usually miss. Low and near the heel. The feel wasn't that great, but when you caught one, it was nice!! The 460 was a much better drive, only you missed out on the weights.. Not a huge deal, really, but it was fun to tinker, and I liked having a lower SW in my driver. MUCH more forgiving, but still had that more triangular look to it. The Super Tri, I think is a blend of both. I get the weights to set up how I want. I get the shorter back to front, less triangular head, but in the 460cc head. I've moved the weights around to give me the medium launch conditions, and the spin numbers seem right. I'm not a numbers player, because I'm not where near good enough to make it worthwhile. But moving things around, I've got a great set up. The Super Tri is a damn forgiving driver too. I've hit them mostly in the center, but I'll move from high on the face, to low on the face, and even some random toe and heel shots to boot when I try and work one, and get wild.. I still get some decent yardage, but the driver doesn't spin the ball hard one way or the other. My launch angle and spin numbers on the monitor are pretty good. Not perfect, but enough that I'm getting consistent numbers, and by far, better than what I have right now. But like I said.. I don't give a damn about 3000 rpms vesus 3500 rpms. My spin is enough that I carry the ball well, and low enough that I get a moderate amount of roll out after the drives normally. I'm not a long ball hitter, but I'm getting around 265+/- on a good shot, and a little roll out. What I like is the sound and feel. Not as muted as the R9, not as "tinny" as the 460. Great feedback, and it sounds and feels really hot. Plus the black face is the cats ass. ;) I like my Callaway FT-9 Tour driver with a 63g Fubuki in it, but the feeling of it is nil. It's so bland and muted, I don't like it. Slick- How you likin yours?
sl*ckpitt said: I'm absolutely loving mine so far! I'd say your spot on with everything there. I've probably got about 8 or 9 total rounds on it so far, lots of range balls. After the honeymoon was over, I don't think I'm hitting it any farther than the FT-9 Tour, but I'm LOADS more consistant with it, and I like the ball flight I'm getting now. Kind of a mid-high flight. It's much more forgiving than the FT-9, mis-hits seem more apt to hit the rough rather than the water/ob/etc. I haven't been counting fairways hit, but if I had to take a stab at it I'd say I've improved by 10-20%. Played two rounds Saturday and shot an 80 and a 77, my best 2 rounds this year. My score is always so indicative of how I hit the ball off the tee.
